Personal Background: Name of Artist: Emily Blincoe
Dates of Artist’s Life:
Emily Blincoe was born in Austin Texas, and stayed there for a large “chunk” of her life. She is currently 41. Around 2002 (when she was 22), Emily was given a film camera from her brother. This was the moment that led to her future as a photographer. February 28th 2012, Emily got her dog Eleanor. Eleanor is of extreme significance due to the fact that she is the main idea/ emphasis of many of Emily’s photos. In 2013, Emily started as a photographer full time. This decision meant the start of her largely successful career as a photographer and her future happiness as one as well. After Emily started working as a photographer, she accidentally started attacking photos of arrangements. She did this by “grabbing some green and red things and putting them on a grid”.
2. Style:
Emily Blincoe usually likes to take pictures of arrangements. Whether these arrangements be of food or medical tools, she has a variety. One of the pictures that I feel is the most known is the photo of the red, orange, and green peppers. Ms. Blincoe also seems to enjoy taking portrait photos in addition to the arrangements. Emily has her own collection of photos for her dog Eleanor. Emily’s style is extremely relaxed and peaceful. Her images seem to be focused on making people feel more relaxed and at peace.
3. Philosophy:
Emily takes a large variety of photos, one of which is her arrangements category. Emily feels as though she needs to capture some of the moments and memories from her family/ loved ones in time for her to look back on. This is why she takes photos of things like flowers from her mothers garden, her grandmother's stamp collection, etc. Emily seems to find a large importance with family. Most of her images are of things that are meaningful to her. I believe that Emily is trying to say that “family is important and you need to remember the good times you’ve had with your own family”. Overall, Emily seems to be a more personal artist. She takes photos of things she cherishes and enjoys rather than photos for documentary or political purposes.
4. Influences:
Her: Emily Blincoe found that the little moments and trying to find the beauty in ordinary things in her life inspired her to take photos. She finds that color and faces are also inspirations for her. She feels as though she wants to take long lasting photo-memories to remember the times she had and experienced. She feels as though it is necessary to preserve those memories and remember them to the fullest when she looks back at them. She is inspired to create for herself rather than creating for others.
Me: When I am looking at Emily’s images I seem to see a difference in hers compared to others. When I look at Emily’s arrangements I seem to want to try it out for myself. Her photos seem to draw out the beauty in everyday items and activities. Her creativity when it comes to photography makes me want to think more outside the box and become more creative myself. In addition to her amazing style, she seems to be completely lenient of what she is taking photos of. She has an entire album of her dog! I really like how she is willing to photograph what she likes, and create for herself rather than others. I feel like that would be something I would want to do as well.

Personal Artist Statement
For this image, I was mainly concerned about the objects and background rather than the lighting. While taking these photos I had a hard time recreating the image perfectly due to the fact that we do not have Whataburger close to where I live. Because of this, I just used a McDonalds box in order to replace it. It was hard for me to find a flat papery object that was the same color background as the original so I just used a light blue background instead. After I took my photo, I was slightly annoyed by the grease I had noticed on the paper. When I was editing this picture, I raised the brightness and exposure which slightly added to the final product. I found taking this photo both enjoyable and challenging because although I was able to experiment in ways that I hadn't done before, I was pressed for time due to the paper background absorbing the grease and ketchup.
This photograph was hard to recreate. The color of leafs were hard to find by my house, and the lighting of both photos were extremely different. Rather than focusing on recreating this photo exactly as it was made, I decided to focus on creating a similar photo to the original. After I took this photo I thought that by raising and dropping the exposure, curves, and brightness that the image recreation would be more similar to the original. This worked slightly, but it did not work 100% the way I wanted it to. While recreating this photo I had both a fun and challenging time. I overall enjoyed attempting to recreate this photo and I was able to rake some leaves as well.
Although this image is quite simple, it was also quite difficult to recreate. While attempting to arrange the eggs in their correct places, the eggs would constantly roll away from their positions causing problems with the arrangement. After I made the recreation and I began to edit, I had a hard time finding the correct adjustments with the exposure, curves, and brightness level that would work best for recreating the original image the most accurately. While recreating this photo, I came across many difficulties/ challenges that made it hard to recreate the exact photo. However, I still enjoyed remaking this image due to the abnormality of this image. I overall enjoyed recreating this photo and experimenting with ways to keep the eggs mostly still.
Artist Statement:
Overall, I enjoyed experimenting with and taking these photos. When I started to take these photos, I had was afraid that recreating the photos would be extremely challenging and close to impossible. However, I soon learned that taking these photos would be fun and that i would be triumphant rather than sad and distraught. The first photo that I recreated(Compilation of Memories) I feel as though both the title and image itself represent the good times and memories I had when I was a child. For the second photo(The Article of Leaves) I feel like the image itself represents how many things in life are thrown away and forgotten. For my second recreation, I personally enjoy how the contrasting colors within the image help the image to seem more alive and engaging. The third photo that I recreated(More Eggs), represents how we all start out as the same thing(cells inside of eggs). The number and color of the eggs represents the amount of people and the diversity of them around the world. I chose to recreate Emily Blincoe's images because I felt that her images used everyday items to tell a greater story about the journey of life. I felt that I could similarly represent the journey of life with my own recreations.
