Muffled Symmetry
Artist Statement: When I took this photo, I had found some interesting looking buildings. I was around 1/2 mile away from the diag. It was about 2pm and the weather was perfect. There were barely any clouds in the sky which made for a very beautiful and visible bright blue sky. By using one of the photography recommendations (take pictures from uncommon angles/ POV's), I was able to find a very interesting side perspective of this building. With this photo I am trying to convey a feeling of familiarity through the large and old building. One challenge I had while trying to take this photo was trying not to get any foliage in the photo. One triumph I had was that I was able to get all of the foliage out of the image. Blue Patterns
Artist Statement: Before I took this photo I was just wandering around downtown trying to find good places to take photos. I was headed towards the clocktower at the time when I discovered this very interesting red-ish building. I felt as though this building was familiar and I thought that it would make a good photo. The contrast of the red building against the blue reflection of the clouds seemed to create a very interesting feeling of nastalgia in me. When people look at this photo I hope that this image conveys a feeling of pride and hopefulness within them. One challenge I had while trying to take this photo was avoiding the people and foliage in the area while also being able to get a god amount of the building inside of the photo. One triumph I had while trying to take this photo was that I was able to get a very interesting angle on the building. Theater of Memories
Artist Statement: When I took this photo, I was sitting on a stone bench next to the Michigan theater. This large building held a lot of interesting memories for me due to the fact that I came here for a lot of field trips. When I took this photo the time was probably closer to 3pm and I was just about done with taking my photos. I found that the old-style outside of the building seemed to remind me of the Sherlock Holmes movies I used to watch. The outside seemed to look a little more old fashioned and gave me a familiar feeling of joy and remembrance. When other people look at this photo I hope to convey a felling of joy and remembrance as well. One challenge I had while taking this photo was avoiding the people that were walking all over the place. One triumph I had was that I was able to take some interesting photos of the cool-looking windows inside of the building. New Technology
Artist Statement: I took this photo right under the clock tower. I had been walking around downtown when I happened to stumble upon the clock tower. I looked up to see a very tall and narrow building with and interesting design. I lined up my camera and noticed that there were some cool things going on with the photo(color contrast, light contrast, size contrast). These interesting differences within the photo created a large feeling of "smallness"(the realization of how small people are compared to the gigantic buildings within cities). When people look at this photo I hope to instill a feeling of "smallness" within them as well to provoke deeper understanding and thoughts about the world and humanity. One challenge I had while trying to take this photo was that I could not seem to get an angle that would show most of the clock tower while also preventing anything else from appearing in the photo. One triumph I had while taking this photo was that I was able to get a very interesting corner angle on the building which provided an interesting experience for me and hopefully other viewers. Old complexity
Artist Statement: While I was taking these photos I was walking around the Law quad. While I was venturing though the grounds I found this very interesting castle-like building. I wasn't exactly sure why such a fascinating and mid-evil looking building was there but I found it to be quite intriguing. After I took this photo I felt as though I saw a resemblance between the buildings from Harry Potter and the building in the photo. When I thought about it more I started to get a feeling of happyness and joy towards the fond memories I had. When other people look at this image I hope that they also get a feeling of happyness and joy when they look at this photo. One challenge I had while taking this photo was avoiding the trees and foliage around the grounds. One triumph I had while taking these photos was that I was able to capture a lot of color ad texture within the photos. |
